StonePalA virtual pet rock game for Android

Your own pet rock. Calm, a little silly, always there.

Get it on Google Play

StonePal is a virtual pet game in which the pet is a rock. It can’t die, it won’t run off, and whatever it has grown stays grown. You drop in for a minute or two to clean it, polish it and feed it, the rock keeps growing while you’re away, and the points you earn go on hats, gardens, new habitats and new looks for your stone.

How it plays

Every rock is born with its own shape, one of ten, so no two start out alike. You choose its texture and the habitat it lives in, and then you look after it in short visits: brush off the dust, polish it, give it a mist, hand it a mineral when it gets hungry. Each of those actions comes back after a few hours, which is why a minute here and there is enough. Miss a day and nothing happens. Stay away for several days and the rock gets dusty and mossy and grows more slowly, until you come back and scrub it clean.

A pet rock that grows while you’re away

Growth is counted in hours and keeps going when the app is closed, for up to two days at a stretch. After about seven months your rock is fully grown, and if you keep looking after it, it starts producing golden growth nuggets. Pick one up, hand it over at feeding time, and the rock grows another 5% and shows a new mineral vein. Ten nuggets take it to full overgrowth. You can raise up to five rocks at once.

More than 140 props

Hats, glasses, faces, crowns, gnomes, flowers, lanterns, cacti and little animal friends: StonePal has more than 140 props, and you place each one with a 3D gizmo, so a hat sits at exactly the angle you want and a nose ends up where a nose belongs. The showiest are the premium pieces, and many of them move: a lighthouse, a windmill, a water mill, a carousel, a rocket, a beehive, a campfire. Seasonal shelves open twice a year, with Halloween props from mid-October and Christmas ones in December.

58 habitats to choose from

Your rock lives in a habitat, and there are 58 of them: meadows and fields, sunsets, rocks and deserts, forests and water, sports grounds and town squares, city streets and cosy interiors. Eight are free from the start and the rest open up as you play. The stone itself can wear any of 51 textures.

Weather, a volcano and a UFO

While you’re away, things happen. A sandstorm buries the rock, a downpour or a thunderstorm soaks it, a volcano erupts next door. A buried or soaked rock grows more slowly until you clean it up, unless you spend a few points to put a roof over it. Not all news is bad: a meteor shower leaves crystals lying around, and now and then aliens land in a UFO with a gift, or with a strange idea about your rock’s texture. Any event can leave a rare prop behind, and there are seven of those to collect on your trophy shelf.

Free, with fair amber and optional ads

StonePal is free. Care earns points, and points buy props, habitats and textures. Amber is the special currency for premium pieces. You can buy it, but it also turns up on its own: on the ground when the rock is well looked after, after good events, once a day for a short ad, or in exchange for points. Amber buys looks only. It never speeds up growth and never replaces care. Ads appear only when you choose to watch one for a reward.

Looking for a pet simulator?

If you like virtual pet games and looking after a digital pet, but not the guilt, StonePal is the relaxed version. There is care to give and the rock notices when you’ve been gone, but nothing dies, nothing is taken away, and a short visit a day is plenty. It’s a cozy game for a coffee break, a bus ride or the last minute before sleep.

Cloud save and six languages

There’s no account to create. If you’re signed in to Google Play Games, StonePal keeps a copy of your progress in the cloud. The game speaks English, Polish, German, French, Russian and Italian.

Questions and answers

Is StonePal a pet simulator?
Yes, a calm one. You clean, polish, mist and feed your rock in short visits, and it keeps growing for up to two days while you’re away. There is care to give, but no pressure and no way to lose your pet.
Can my pet rock die?
No. Its growth never goes backwards. If you stay away for a long time or bad weather hits, the rock grows more slowly until you look after it again, and that’s the only consequence.
Do I have to feed my rock?
Feeding is part of the care. A mineral keeps the rock fed for up to a day. A hungry rock still grows, it just asks you for food.
What happens while I’m away?
The rock keeps growing, up to two days at a time, and every so often the weather or a visitor turns up: a sandstorm, a downpour, a thunderstorm, a volcano, a meteor shower or a UFO. You’ll see what happened the next time you open the game.
Is StonePal free? Are there ads?
It’s free. Ads are optional: you watch one only when you want a reward, such as skipping a care cooldown or getting a piece of amber. Amber can also be bought, but it only buys looks.
How many props and habitats are there?
More than 140 props, 58 habitats and 51 stone textures. Seasonal props appear for Halloween and Christmas, premium ones cost amber, and seven rare props can only be found after events.
Can I have more than one rock?
Yes, up to five. Each one is born with its own shape.
Which languages does StonePal support?
English, Polish, German, French, Russian and Italian.
